  1. Thanks to Claude for mentioning his name and to you for posting these videos. I can't in honesty say I knew anything about Sir John Barbirolli but now I've listened to these brief pieces of his performances and have read some history on wikipedia. I couldn't help but notice that in Monitor 4 he appears to be conducting a orchestra made up of teenagers. I now know he enjoyed the informality of Halle and not being chivvied by directors but I wonder did he often teach children even after he'd become so famous?

    On video 4, so many young women in the orchestra, even one at the drums! Quite exciting. Very few female percussionists in all the world's orchestras. Just reading an article about this.
    The sound is a bit low, and I'm very deaf. But the subtitles help a lot. And I'm sure Martin will find a trick to raise the level when he comes on Friday. I could watch this over and over again. So inspiring! Thank you again.
